Water That Flows from Clouds: Clean Mountain Spring Infrastructure in Baram

For generations, the Penan elders of Upper Baram fetched their drinking water from tumbling mountain streams. However, upstream industrial logging and soil erosion in recent decades transformed once-crystalline rivers into murky silted flows after every tropical downpour.

Designing with Mountain Topography

Rather than importing complex motorized pumps that fail when spare parts are hundreds of river miles away, Aaranya's engineering team partnered with village elders to identify perennial spring sources perched 300 meters above the settlement.
